In general I like listening to talk radio and with the absence of CBC from the air their was not much choice left for me. It was initially uncomfortable adjusting to the lower standards of journalism practices at 1010, however, eventually I loosened up a bit and got used to the humorous and many times rude comments made by the talk show hosts. The topics covered are interesting and provocative and quite thought provoking.

After listening in for several years now, however, I have slowly been made aware of the subtle undertones that emnate from this radio station. It took time to detect these undertones. First of all, they are very subtle and require a very perceptive persion to tune into them,but for someone like me, it takes prolonged repeated exposure to understand the message of an undertone(just ask my wife). Secondly, I guess the hosts have learnt to deliver their blows wrapped neatly inside a facade of humor and pseudo intellectualism. The undertones I am referring about are racial biases and a kind of nazi like supremacy mentality with an extremly WASP friendly bias.

Bill Carrol, hosts one of the morning shows and is quiet popular. But he has absolutly no understanding of any real world issues. His default status quo is to be defiant of any authority and argue and argue and argue back at everything, till the cows come home. Bill posseses a rare talent called “The gift of gab”, he is an undefeatable speaker and outstanding arguer, I am deliberatly not using the word debator because debators requre listening skills, which Bill does not have. Bill is also very racially biased and can be very offensive to people of visible minority. His show has no substance, he picks on good topics but knows nothing about them and will defend his ignorance with the power of speech with which he is gifted.

John Moore, hosts one of the evening shows and is truly amazing. He has “Gift of gab” too,however, there are no racial undertones in his speech. He is funny, witty and listens and does not cumpulsively argue all the time. The only problem is that he picks very childish topics sometimes. I think his talent is truly underutilized on CFRB.

Michael Coren, another host who was thankfully moved to an afternoon show and we dont have to put up with him during rush our traffic. He is again a remarkable speaker with “gift of gab”. However, even worse then Bill Carrol, he is unable to even argue, let alone debate. This host is extremly rude, extremly racial and total dictatorial style of hosting. There is not one incidence where I have heard him allowing a caller to complete a sentence, if the caller is disagreeing with him, you can be assured that the line will be cut.

There are many other hosts, but I dont classify any of them with a gifted talent for speaking in public. I guess 1010CFRB has to somehow fill air time and anyone is better than shutting down transmission.

Finally, a special mention to Christie Blatchford. She is not a host but somehow appears as a VIP guest almost everyday on the Bill Carrol show. This lady has absolutly no ability to speak on radio and if I were running the show, she would not be allowed to open her mouth in public, ever again. Some people have greatness thrust upon them and dont have the modesty to step back and say “sorry guys, there was a mistake, I am sure this was intended for someone else”. She is routinly revered on CFRB and for some strange reason, even Bill Carrol pulls his punches and blindly agrees with what she has to say. By the way, Christie is also extremly racially biased.

The problem with auto sector did not materialize overnight and we have to address it at the root. The cold hard ugly reality is that we live in a world where the “typical autoworker skillset” can be bought for pennies and we want to pay them 100 dollars and hour. Forget about the world, in canada itself there are hundreds of hard working skilled workers, recently immigrated from other countries, with a dream in their eyes and willing to work for 10 bucks an hour and capable of producing a very good car.

To save the auto industry, the first thing required is to dissolve all unions and allow free market to dictate worker saleries.

Withdraw all goverenment support, let the market decide what cars are worth buying and if the einstein marketing department of the car company does not understand market demand signals, then let them go drink from the toilette.

The next issue, is with the dealers. Why is there so much tom-foolery in buying a car. I have no problem buying a plasma tv from best buy, then why is it so stressful to buy a car from a dealer, why is there this attitude to try an extract every dollar from my pocket.

The government is also to blame. If instead of supporting auto industry, they spent that money on public transit, then to survive, the auto sector will have to reduce prices and develop the next generation of automobile – remember the good old saying – we dont need cars, we need transportation!!
